"Spring Poetry Festival" Organized at IIT Kanpur, Students Delighted by Shayari and Poetry

Kanpur, 15 April 2025| Poetry, in essence, is a form of spiritual practice—where the poet immerses deeply into an experience and expresses it through words. Spring has always been a beloved season for poets—a time when the heart fills with fresh emotions, and words effortlessly take the form of poetry. In this celebration of nature, humans too are instinctively drawn towards poetry, Shayari, and ghazals.

Upholding its tradition, the Indian Institute of Kanpur (IITK) organized a unique literary evening, “Vasant Kavyotsav” (Spring Poetry Festival), on campus to welcome the spring season, which was not just a literary gathering but also a symbol of the cultural connection that sets IIT Kanpur apart from other technical institutions.

This event was jointly hosted by the Hindi Sahitya Sabha, the official language cell, and the Shivani Centre For Nurture And Reintegration Of Hindi And Other Languages, providing a platform for literature enthusiasts to express their emotions through poetry, Shayari (Urdu poetry), and ghazals. The event began with performances from students, professors, and staff members, namely Prof. Bharat Lohani, Prof. Santosh Kumar Mishra, Mr. Anil Kumar Pandey, Mr. Ram Jeet Yadav, Ms. Shipra Gyanendra Singh, Mr. Pratik Ranjan Daftuar, Mr. Burhanuddin Merchant, Ms. Somya Mishra, and Ms.Vanshika (niece of Prof. Suman Saurabh), who presented their self-composed literary pieces. The audience was mesmerized by poems drenched in the charm of spring and the vibrant hues of nature. As one of the lines from famous poet quote “Aasiqi me meer jaisie khwaab mat dekha karo, bawle ho jaoge mehtaab mat dekha karo”. Immersed in the spirit of Shayari, the event beautifully showcased various themes such as humor, satire, love, nature, and Indian culture. At the end of the event compositions also sensitively portrayed the dilemmas faced by today’s society and the inner conflicts of the youth.

The audience actively participated and applauded enthusiastically after every performance. At the end of the event, the organizers expressed their gratitude to all the participants and hoped for more such literary evenings in the future.
