Kanpur, March 27, 2025: The Academics and Career Council (PG), Students' Gymkhana, IIT Kanpur, successfully organized Career Connect 2025, which served as a premier platform that brought together academic experts and industry professionals. As a part of this event, expert-led seminars on research publication and intellectual property rights were conducted, equipping participants with essential skills for academic excellence and professional growth.

The first session was on “Turning Research into Rights: A Scholar’s Guide to Patent Filing” led by Mr. Ravi Pandey, Research Establishment Officer (IP & Technology Transfer) at IIT Kanpur. The session covered key aspects of patent filing, innovation protection, and technology transfer.

Topics included identifying innovation, challenges in patent filing, domestic and foreign patent filing procedures, commercialization strategies, and the role of IPRs in academia. The session also highlighted IIT Kanpur’s milestone of filing 1,250 IPRs, reinforcing its commitment to research-driven innovation and industry collaboration.

Prof. Kantesh Balani, Yadupati Singhania Memorial Chair Professor from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, IIT Kanpur, led the second session titled “The Science of Writing Science: How to Draft a Good Research Article”. He spoke about writing high-impact research articles, with a focus on journal selection, manuscript structuring, effective data presentation, and handling peer review input.

He emphasized the best practices to elevate the quality of research papers and, importance of clarity and coherence in scholarly publications, ensuring that research is not only impactful but also accessible to a wider audience. The session provided practical guidance on structuring research papers, selecting journals, presenting results effectively, and handling peer review comments, equipping scholars with essential skills for high-impact publications. Participants engaged in interactive discussions and received expert tips to excel in their scientific contributions and academic writing.
