Kanpur, 27 November, 2024: To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution, the Legal Cell of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) organized a joint recitation of the Preamble to the Constitution. The event, coordinated by Shri Prakalpa Sharma, Deputy Registrar (Legal), commenced with a brief introduction highlighting India’s Constitutional journey and the importance of Constitution Day. Faculty, students, and staff of the institute gathered to honor the enduring ideals of the Indian Constitution, celebrating the occasion with great enthusiasm and patriotism. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, who led an inspiring recital of the Preamble, with all participants joining in unison. Prof. Braj Bhushan, Deputy Director, enriched the proceedings by reciting the Preamble in Hindi, reminding participants of the Constitution’s guiding principles and ultimate objectives. Addressing the audience, Prof. Manindra Agrawal underscored the salient characteristics of the Indian Constitution, describing it as the foundation of the nation's democracy and progress. He highlighted its unique ability to foster unity in diversity and strike a balance between citizens' rights and responsibilities. A keynote address was delivered by Shri Manish Paliwal, Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court of India. His insightful talk traced the Constitution's historical journey, examined its fundamental ideas, and explored its evolution over time. Shri Paliwal also engaged participants in interactive sessions, fostering discussions on current constitutional concerns and making the session intellectually stimulating and engaging. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Vishwa Ranjan, Registrar of IIT Kanpur, who expressed sincere gratitude to the speakers, organizers, and participants for their contributions to the success of the occasion. This historic event highlighted IIT Kanpur’s dedication to promoting constitutional values and encouraging informed and responsible citizenship.
