Kanpur, 13th February, 2025: IIT Kanpur recently hosted an educational tour for students from 15 government and government-aided secondary schools of Kanpur Dehat. Organized by the Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra, in collaboration with the Department of SPASE and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA – Kanpur Local Chapter), the initiative aimed at fostering scientific curiosity and awareness among young minds. Welcoming the students, Prof. Sudhanshu S. Singh from Rozi Shiksha Kendra highlighted IIT Kanpur’s commitment to advancing rural education through structured outreach programs. As part of the program, Dr. Tejpreet Kaur, an Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow, conducted an interactive session on the solar system, engaging students with a hands-on demonstration of crater formation. The session also explored galaxy classification and deep-space exploration through the Voyager 1 and 2 missions. The students actively participated and engaged in a dynamic Q&A discussion. Adding to the experience, Prof. Bushra Ateeq delivered an insightful session on genetic coding and the molecular basis of life. She elucidated how genetic mutations, environmental influences, and lifestyle factors contribute to the development of cancer. Her talk provided students with a deeper understanding of cellular mutations and the broader implications of genetic research. Students also had the opportunity to visit IIT Kanpur’s state-of-the-art research laboratories, where they observed advanced scientific equipment, including high-resolution microscopes. They interacted with researchers and scientists, gaining first-hand exposure to the world of scientific exploration and innovation. The visit emphasizes IIT Kanpur’s dedication to promoting science education at the grassroots level, inspiring the next generation of innovators and researchers. Through such outreach efforts, IIT Kanpur continues to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic institutions and school-level education, encouraging students to explore the vast potential of science and technology.
