Title: Common Man Science
Date: 06th Nov, 2023, Monday
Time: 05:00 pm to 06:30 pm
Venue: Outreach Auditorium

Abstract:
Science is our constant companion. It would be a challenge to find Anyone above 3 years of age who does not intuitively respond to the basic laws of science such as the Newton's three laws of motion. Every home has a Kitchen wherein lots of Physics, Chemistry and Biology happens on the go. Using kitchen materials one can learn and experiment with a large number of basic scientific phenomena. Furthermore, it also gives an Opportunity to learn advanced concepts in Science as well. Some glimpses of these will be discussed in the talk. view poster...

Title: LHC: The Lord of the Rings
Date: Feburary 15 2024, Thursday
Time: 5:15 pm to 6:15 pm
Venue: Lecture Hall 19

Abstract:
Particle physics is a discipline in science that aims to understand how Nature works at the most elementary level. We have accumulated a lot of understanding by probing matter at smaller and smaller scales. To do that we need powerful accelerators, and advanced experiments at these accelerator facilities. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva is the most recent major scientific instrument for fundamental science. It is a circular accelerator, to probe the smallest constituents of matter, In this talk I will provide a pedagogical overview of our current understanding of the elementary particles, what we have conclusively learned about them in the past years, and what are the big questions that will be studied in the near future. view poster...

Title: Attosecond Physics: Observing Matter on its Natural Time Scale
Date: January 18 2024, Thursday
Time: 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Venue: Lecture Hall 17

Abstract:
The Physics Nobel prize 2023 was given to Pierre Agostini, Anne L' Huillier and Ferenc Krausz for their pioneering work on the generation and use of attosecond optical pulses for the study of electron dynamics in matter. The generation of ever shorter pulses is a key to exploring the dynamic behavior of matter on faster time scales. Attosecond pulses are unprecedentedly short (10*1®second) light pulses which matches with the intrinsic timescales of electron motion. In this talk I will give a basic overview on different attributes of generation and characteristics of attosecond pulses. Finally, I will provide a basic understanding on how attosecond light pulses allow one to probe the inner workings of atoms, molecules and solids on their intrinsic timescale. view poster...
